About Us

About Samurai Dojo

Samurai Dojo is a friendly and inclusive karate school dedicated to inspiring students to integrate the benefits of karate into their everyday lives. We offer a variety of programs, including tailored kids’ programs, self-defence classes, and adult fitness sessions. As a community and family-focused karate school, we encourage our students to develop the best version of themselves through karate.

Our Philosophy

We aim to develop individuals to become limitless, healthy, and confident. Both children and adults build self-respect while receiving physical, emotional, and mental education. Our goal is to help students discover their unique talents and build upon their strengths and weaknesses. Karate training is immensely beneficial, encouraging children to seize opportunities throughout their lives and contributing positively to local communities.

Our History

Samurai Dojo has its roots in Cape Town, South Africa, where Sensei Paul began training in Kimura Shukokai Karate in 1986 under Shihan Chris Thompson. Sensei Paul started teaching karate in 1996 and continued to instruct at various Samurai Dojos in Cape Town. When Senseis Paul and Justine moved to Australia, they established Kimura Shukokai Karate in Sydney in 2014, with the support of the Kimura Shukokai World Chief Instructors. In 2018, the Samurai Dojo Australia Honbu Dojo (headquarters) was relocated to Thirroul, NSW.

Competitive Karate

For students interested in competitive sport karate, we offer specialised coaching services and are a member organisation of the Australian Karate Federation and New South Wales Karate Federation. Our competitive programs are designed to help students achieve excellence in the sport, providing them with the skills and support needed to compete at the highest levels.
