Shihan Chris Thompson, a 9th Dan in Kimura Shukokai Karate, is one of the Joint Chief Instructors of Kimura Shukokai International (KSI) and a key figure in the global development of the style. His karate background includes 2nd Dan ranks in both Kyokushin and Goju-Ryu Karate. Shihan Chris’s competitive achievements include being awarded Best Fighter and Best Kata at the 1981 Shukokai World Championships. He also represented South Africa in karate as a Springbok in numerous international competitions, showcasing his skill and dedication to the art.
After years of training under Soke Shigeru Kimura, Shihan Chris has since dedicated his life to advancing Kimura Shukokai through his deep understanding of biomechanics and effective power generation have shaped the core training methodologies taught at KSI dojos worldwide. As the Chief Instructor for KSI Southern Region in South Africa, Shihan Chris continues to uphold the legacy of Soke Kimura, promoting karate’s principles through international seminars, grading sessions, and mentoring practitioners globally.
