Shihan Lionel Marinus, a 9th Dan in Kimura Shukokai Karate, is one of the four World Chief Instructors of Kimura Shukokai International (KSI). He started his karate journey in 1965, earning his Shodan (1st Dan) by 1967. As a decorated competitor, Shihan Lionel represented South Africa as a Springbok in multiple international competitions, including captaining the South African Shukokai Team at the 1969 World Championships in Paris, where the team secured second place.

In 1973, he traveled to New York for a year of intensive training with Soke Shigeru Kimura, which laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to advancing Shukokai. Shihan Lionel’s contribution to the art has been recognised through several promotions, achieving his 9th Dan in 2016. He continues to teach and inspire students across Southern Africa, Australia, and Europe, sharing his extensive experience and passion for Kimura Shukokai Karate.
